The Ontario 28 traces its origins back to the C&C design team, and it has a reputation for being a very well built boat officially designed by Niagara Nautic Inc. In reality, the ONTARIO 28 was one of the first boats designed by Henry Adriaanse after he left the C&C design team. It is also one of the largest in its class, and it is actually larger than many 29 footers on the market. While it has an impressive 10 foot beam, the Ontario 28 has a very reasonable 4 foot draft.

Machushla was built in 1983, and except for a short six month cruise in the Caribbean, has been sailed in freshwater in central Canada. This Ontario 28 one has been outfitted for extending cruising and is well suited for the Great lakes or a trip south.

A short list of its many extras includes rope and chain windlass, high output alternator, wind vane andautopilot, 3 burner propane stove and oven, custom fitted opening ports and extra ventilation, larger diesel with closed cooling system, and much more. She includes a dodger, bimini, wheel steering, inner forestay, tri-sail mast track, furling headsail, full batten mainsail, and even a spinnaker and pole.

Most of the standing rigging has been upgraded;
Swageless Norseman Terminals on key parts of the standing rigging (Norseman terminals are extra strong and unlike swaged terminal, can be rigged at sea without special tools);
Solent stay – a second removable forestay. (This is a pre-tensioned second forestay which stores out of the way, but which can be connected in less than 30 seconds when needed. Very useful for hanking on the blade sail, storm jib, or other headsail in heavier winds when the genoa is fully furled on the permanent forestay.);
Backstay adjuster – hand turned wheel with gauge (handy for taking the sag out of the headsail);
Short inboard tracks for blade sail;
18 or 19 stainless steel mast steps (*ready to reinstall – holes in mast covered with temporary plastic screws);

High output 90 amp alternator with instruction manual (charges the batteries quickly);
30 amp cable for shore power and 30 amp stainless steel power inlet;

Incredible value – very well maintained and upgraded cruiser including new tan coloured full cockpit enclosure (bimini, dodger, insert panel and full side panels), Yanmar 2GM diesel engine, new Raymarine ST60 depth, new Raymarine ST60 speed, new compass, CD stereo with powerful salon speakers, new head and hoses, mainsail on lazyjacks and furling Genoa both sails in good shape from late 90′s.

Accommodations:

Cockpit: Plenty of room due to the wide beam of this vessel. There is a full cockpit enclosure which is great for early or late in the season, and for keeping the bugs out. Cockpit cushions make lounging here very comfortable, there is enough length for a 6′+ person to lie down. The tiller folds back and really opens up the area when at the dock or anchored. There is a high bridgedeck and coamings for safety at sea.

Salon: The salon, like the rest of the vessel, is finely finished in rich dark mahogany. The dark wood is offset by a bright headliner and plenty of natural light. There are two settees, both of the settee backs flip up to create a comfortable berth, the port settee slides out as well, creating a comfortable double berth. The large mahogany table hinges down from the port bulkhead, revealing wine/bottle storage and another shelf above. With just one leaf down, the table is comfortable for two and remains out of the way- flip up the second leaf and five+ can dine in comfort. Forward of the salon, in the passage to the v-berth there is a large hanging locker and shelf above.

Galley: The galley is aft and features a stainless sink with both pressure water and a foot pump which works great for conserving power and water. There is also an icebox with 12v refrigeration. There is tons of storage including drawers, shelves with sliding doors, and a cavernous dry storage locker.

Spacious cruiser with large “U” shaped galley to port which makes cooking when underway as safe and easy as possible. A large nav station is aft to starboard along with a hanging locker. Both the galley and nav station are much larger than most 37 footers because there is no quarter berth. Salon is straightforward with two settees upholstered in white fabric, opening ports, and a centerline drop-leaf table. Forward is an enclosed head and large v-berth with a big hanging locker. Main Salon
The main salon is comprised of settees port and starboard with drawer storage under. The port settee slides out to become a double berth. Vessel walk-through:

The cockpit is spacious and is covered by a dodger and bimini in navy blue, both in excellent condition. Cockpit seats are covered in teak, which has been redone and is in excellent condition, left uncoated for sure footing. There are cockpit cushions in navy blue, which match the rest of the canvas. There is standing headroom at the helm under the bimini, and the cockpit seats are long enough to lie down on. The rest of the deck offers excellent lounging space on warm teak, in excellent condition and left natural for footing.

Heading into the cabin, we have a traditional layout with single quarter berth and nav station to starboard and a U-shaped galley designed for offshore to port. The nav station faces forward, and has a surface large enough for full size paper charts, as well as storage. There is a wet locker for hanging wet foulies to starboard of the companionway steps. The galley has a gimballed four burner propane stove and oven with electronic solenoid shutoff which is fed from the dual aluminum tanks stored on the coach house roof. There is a large icebox with teak shelves that allow for easy organizing of food. This icebox would be easy to upgrade to a fridge/freezer if so desired. The galley has a large sink with hot and cold pressure water, as well an insert for more counter space, which is plentiful. There is excellent storage throughout the galley.

The salon is bright and airy, with long windows and an opening hatch as well as an opening port. The large “L” shaped settee is to port, with a fold up table the vessel will seat 7. Moving forward there is a large hanging locker to starboard, a spacious head with new toilet to port, and a large V-berth ahead. There are two more opening hatches, which can open fore or aft, depending on the situation (eg at anchor or heading offshore).
